People beg because begging is lucrative. If the OP believes beggars only ever ask for gold because they *need* it, then he's sadly mistaken. I've spoken with people who beg because GW players can be generous to a fault. If you spam for 2g and end up with 2k (from more than one pitying player)...

A-Net has added in items of great worth in order to try and balance out the boundaries between rich and poor, however these items can only be bought by those with much gold. Many people do not have a ton of gold nor know how to gain such gold. This would be a readily available source of gold added in.
Shifting, you are missing the point of Ebaying gold. IMO, people use it because it's 'quick cash'. It's not so much paying someone for the gold as paying someone else to do the work and spend the time of *attaining* the gold. Why spend a year earning a million gold just to spend on making your l33t warrior look pretty when you can buy the gold and have it in your pocket the next 24 hours?

For this reason, bounties won't fix things. It will still require a player to earn their armour 'the hard way', through time and effort. Or do you plan for bounties of 100k + ectos?

It is *not* hard to make gold in this game. If people aren't smart enough to pick up ALL their drops and merch the ones they don't plan to keep, it's no wonder they can't afford 1.5k armour when they hit level 20.

I don't mind the idea of bounties at all, but promoting it as a way to stop people using Ebay or begging is naive. :/

Shadow of Light, you could very well be right and maybe I am naive. Of course people use it as quick cash. However, I'm not pretending to know the motives of everyone who buys ebay gold or the sublteties behind it. I do know that some people buy ebay gold because they don't know how to make large sums of money quickly. My old guild leader did it about a year and a half ago to buy a guild hall because we didn't have the gold and didn't really know how to make it.

I've never said it would eliminate it entirely. I said it could and probably would reduce it. It is a valid reason whether you acknowledge it or not. And I already specified what I thought would be a good cap on the reward so no, I don't expect to be making 100k+ectos.

You wouldn't need any of this if they made money from quest rewards actually reasonable.

Getting 200 gold for completing a quest worth 4,000 experience is stupid. What the hell can you buy for 200 gold? 4 Grey Dyes?

Since I suspect most of the bounty hunting targets wouldn't be right outside outposts (to avoid xtreme farming), there would likely be some time required in reaching the target. If we're talking 'quick cash', or 'easy cash', then the farmbots will be the first to cash in.

Too bad for him, really. That's all I can say.

'Valid' does not equal 'effective', which is what I don't think it'd be. I don't know how much a guild hall costs (I've never bothered to check...), but let's speculate. How many bounties would you expect someone to collect before he could afford one? And what would you suggest to be a fair length of time required to amass the sum?

Just to add my last 2 pence to the mix;

Very easy ways to make gold other then what I already said;

1) In factions and nightfall, use the exchangable items like commendations which you recieve for quests to get superiour Identification or superiour salvage packs. Then sell those to the merchant. They go for 1k each. I made 13k in about 10 minutes doing that because I had commendations or similar exchangable items stored away inm y inventory.

2) Play the challenge missions in factions over and over and over and over again. Earn faction and then exchange it for amber or shards. I made 60k luxon faction in about a week. At about 400g each x 60, thats not bad.

Add that me already suggesting that you sell everything to the merchant which you find and your sorted.

Obviously if you dont have factions or nightfall, two of those wont work. But you cant say ways to make gold dont exist.

So that again tares apart the "its hard to make gold idea". So aslong as the bounty thing isnt a way to make stupid amounts of gold, I like it.

There are already quests that you can do that act like these 'bounty' quests where you go out and aim to kill a certain person/enemy. And aside from the 'story' green item farming and skill capping also act much like this. The only thing that is really missing is the random location of bosses and having to go out and look for the person you need to hunt down.

If you're looking for gold then green item farming is basically what you describe. You kill a boss and he/she may or may not drop a green item which you can sell for a certain amount of gold. You could also just start something here or within your guild where someone who is 'in-game' rich can tell you to go out and kill a certain amount of enemies or a certain boss and you take a screen-shot of that and post it as proof. And then you're rewarded as to whatever you agreed upon.
